We stock a selection of floor, bed and sofa cushions made from hand-knotted Salt Bags from Persia, Arabia, North Africa and the Hindu Kush which would originally have been thrown over Camels and Arabian Horses and used by Tribesmen such as the Bedouin, Tuaregs, Berbers and Afghans to transport Salt from the vast Salt Plains in the Deserts to major commercial trading markets. At times, the Salt they transported in the bags was often as valuable as Gold.
We also have some unusual handcrafted oriental pelmets which were used by The Bedouin and other tribes who would hang the hand-knotted pelmets to the entrances to their tents in the Desert. However Increasingly in the Middle East and North Africa, as tribes began to live in towns and give up their nomadic lifestyle, the pelmets were still used, but hung over doors , beds and windows to capture the essence of their former nomadic and Bedu heritage
