Karen Edwards
Creates ceramicware using the ‘RAKU’ or post-firing process, based on the technique developed by the ancient Raku masters of Japan and used in the "Tea Ceremony". The process creates unique crackled glaze effects. Ceramics are removed at 1,000 c from the kiln, then buried in combustible materials like straw and sawdust. Each piece is therefore totally unique.
Due to the firing process Raku work is porous and not as strong as conventionally fired pottery and should not be used for food or liquid.
